A Realistic Path to Online Entrepreneurship

Did you know many who preach entrepreneurship aren’t doing it to help you succeed? But take profit from your ambition. They sell the dream, while you carry the risk. So what’s the more innovative approach?

Start as an apprentice.

Every industry has opportunities. The key is not diving in blindly — it’s learning from someone who’s already doing it well. Find a mentor. Work under someone. When the master eats, the apprentice drinks, it means learning while contributing. In this way, you’ll avoid mistakes and build a foundation for your business.

Go Deep, Not Wide

Choose an industry and map it out like a pyramid:

  • Who’s at the top?
  • How much do they make?
  • What milestones did they hit to get there?

Set realistic timelines and expectations. What level can you reach with your current skills, resources, and time? Not everyone reaches the top.

Know Yourself (and the Game)

After starting a business, you don’t need to get $500,000. That kind of leap is rare — and often based on delusion rather than a calculated strategy.

Be brutally honest:

  • Are you excelling in your current job or field?
  • Are you solving meaningful problems?
  • Have you mastered the basics?

If not, don’t rush to start your venture. First, become excellent where you are. Deliver value. Earn trust. Build reputation. That’s your launchpad.

The Hard Truth

If you haven’t performed well in your existing roles, you shouldn’t do well in entrepreneurship. Before chasing “freedom” or “passion,” first master execution — complete your current tasks with excellence.

Then, when you’ve built competence, confidence, and some capital, that’s the time to explore your path.
